Open call auditions for Sister Act
Drama Dock is holding open auditions for our upcoming production of Sister Act, playing at Vashon Center for the Arts, August 21–24.
We are looking to build a company of 16 actor-singers, with some double-casting. The role of Deloris Van Cartier will be cast with a female presenting African-American performer. All other roles are race-flexible in casting.
All actors will be paid a stipend.
Auditions will be held on Saturday, March 15 and Sunday, March 16 at Vashon Community Church (9318 SW Cemetery Road). Please enter the building through the West Entrance. No roles have been pre-cast and performers of all experience levels are encouraged to audition.
All rehearsals will be on Vashon Island (Vashon Community Church, Vashon High School, and Vashon Center for the Arts).
Please review the information below before emailing Lisa Peretti (lisa@dramadock.org) with any additional questions.
What to Prepare
Please prepare one verse and a chorus of a musical theatre song, or a song with printed music in a key that suits your voice. A pianist will be provided. If you arrive without prepared music, be prepared to sing some simple scales or melody so we can determine your vocal range.
You may be asked to read briefly from the script.
In this production of Sister Act, most actors will be required to learn basic movement (dance), but prior dance training is not required.
Please review the “key dates” section below before signing up to audition. Staging rehearsals will be in the evenings and on weekend afternoons. Excessive conflicts over this timeframe may affect casting decisions, and no conflicts will be accepted between August 16–24.
Note: although the audition slot is only 10 minutes, please budget for 30 minutes total to include completing a basic information form and being seen earlier, if we’re running ahead.
