Bach penned hundreds of church cantatas, of which we will sing four written for Christmas. Rutter’s name is virtually synonymous with Christmas carols, both original compositions and arrangements of popular favorites. Join the Chorale for this festive occasion of seasonal music, old and new!

The Laramie Project
Directed by Chris Boscia of Take A Stand Theatre, island actors will perform The Laramie Project by Moisés Kaufman. This play captures Laramie, Wyoming’s reckoning with the murder of Matthew Shepard, and the broader themes of prejudice, accountability, and community healing. The performance aims to spark discussions on tolerance, the media’s role in shaping perception, and collective responsibility in addressing hate.
Dennis Shepard, Matthew’s father, will address the Vashon community before the performance, sharing insights into the work he and his wife, Judy Shepard, a 2024 Presidential Medal of Honor recipient, have undertaken in Matthew’s name to foster acceptance and combat hate.
The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is a cherished holiday tradition for the entire island community! On Christmas Eve, Clara is gifted a nutcracker. That night in a fantastic dream ballet, the Nutcracker comes to life to battle an army of mice and whisks Clara off on a magical journey to the Land of Sweets, where the Sugar Plum Fairy reigns supreme!
Disney’s Newsies Jr.
Disney’s Newsies JR. is a 60-minute musical based on the 1992 movie and 2012 Broadway musical Newsies. It tells the story of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy in New York City at the turn of the century who leads a group of newsies in a strike against newspaper publishers who raise prices at their expense. The musical includes the classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” and is inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, when newsboy Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against Pulitzer, Hearst, and other news magnates.
